To make sure our team feels happy and fulfilled, we conduct an employee survey every six months. This survey helps us understand what makes our people happy at Vermaat and where we can improve. All our initiatives for employees are gathered in our House of Work Happiness, a hub for everything related to work & appreciation, health & vitality, and training & development.

Championing diversity
We’re proud to be certified with the Social Entrepreneurship Performance Platform (PSO) level 3. Our goal for 2027 is to increase diversity within our organization and contribute to an inclusive society where more people can participate in the labor market, maintaining 7% Social Return on Investment (SROI) across our entire workforce. To provide the best guidance, we have a dedicated team of four job coaches at Vermaat.
Celebrating our stars
Every year, we shine a spotlight on our incredible talent with our Talent Game Awards (TGA). It’s how we celebrate excellence and highlight colleagues who truly embody our core values in hospitality. The TGA is all about recognition, appreciation, and heartfelt compliments, and we believe this contributes to the work happiness of our people.
Nominate a colleague or team across six categories: Hospitality Employee, Hospitality Manager, Cook, Barista, Team, and All Star. After a nomination and audition round, our talents are celebrated, with the ‘best’ in each category chosen during the Vermaat Inspiration Market. This annual event is a vibrant gathering where we connect Vermaat colleagues with our suppliers, all while enjoying amazing food and drinks.
Nurturing our team
Together, we ensure that every employee can perform their work sustainably, vitally, and safely – both socially, physically, and mentally. Beyond providing essential safety tools like clothing and shoes, Vermaat is always seeking new and better ways to empower our employees to work comfortably, safely, and joyfully. To foster a healthy workplace, Vermaat offers various additional services available to all employees, including budget coaching and mental support.

The Vermaat Academy
We believe in diverse learning approaches: learning on the job (through challenging projects, for example), near the job (via mentoring), and learning off the job. Our ‘off the job’ learning is offered through the Vermaat Academy. We bring the Academy to life with an annual magazine where you can choose from a wide range of learning opportunities, tailored for different roles and target groups.
All our learning and development initiatives are linked to an employee’s career stage. We have programs for onboarding, developing in a current role, and supporting growth into a future role. At every stage of the employee journey, we measure work happiness, allowing us to continuously learn and improve.
Sharing the craft
At Vermaat, we love doing things together, because together we truly make the difference. For career development specializing in specific fields, Vermaat offers extensive support through its communities.
We have vibrant communities for Baristas, Chefs, and Hostmanship. These communities are a form of social learning where we preserve knowledge within the organization and share a deep love for the profession. Within these communities, we give our senior colleagues the stage they deserve. By inspiring and educating them as trainers, they empower and train future generations.

Beyond these initiatives, Vermaat is an Approved Learning Company, and all employees have 24/7 access to a digital learning platform with e-learning and micro-learnings. This covers professional knowledge, food safety, trends and developments, communication, leadership, our Food Vision, and core values. It’s truly “All you can learn.”
